A letter of funeral wishes, with a budget
Say what you want. Say what to spend.
Write down the funeral you want and the most you want spent on it, in your own words, so the people you love are not left guessing at a hard time. Print it, keep a card in your wallet, and share a read-only copy.

Please ask
My daughter, Anne
Put your preferences in writing, give copies to family members and your attorney, and keep a copy in a handy place.
The same page adds: “Don't designate your preferences in your will, because a will often is not found or read until after the funeral.”

Your numbers, not ours
A budget in your own figures
Write the most you want spent. Then add your own lines: ask funeral homes for their price lists and copy the amounts you would choose. We add up the funeral home, cemetery and cash-advance items and show how far under or over your ceiling you are.
Kindly Noted never suggests a price, never names or rates a funeral home and never shows “average” costs. A starter list adds item names only, so you know what to ask about.
By federal rule a funeral home must give prices on the phone and a printed price list to keep when you ask in person. See the exact words.
